to the New Home of Tri-Town Tribal Lacrosse
Tribal Lacrosse Families:
Here’s your chance to help make new playing fields in Boxford a reality! In the next few weeks, you will be reading and hearing a great deal about a large parcel of land that is being offered to the Town of Boxford. This 77 acre parcel of land is conveniently located near Cole School on Middleton Road.
We need your help!
We need an affirming vote at Town Meeting on October 23rd on Article 13.
As many of you know, the town of Boxford is woefully under fielded. Due to chronic field shortages, Masco Football and Tribal Lacrosse typically hold games and practices in Topsfield, although Boxford children comprise a significant percentage of players. The Boxford Athletic Association (BAA), Tribal Lacrosse, and Masco Youth Football approached the Town Selectmen, Recreation, and Land Committees, requesting additional playing fields. The town committees heard our plea and set out to find a suitable parcel of land. These groups worked hard and recently entered into a Purchase & Sales Agreement with Haynes family. The Haynes Family has agreed to sell the 77 acres of land to the town for $3.25m. There is also an additional $50,000 in related cost (legal, architectural, etc.) associated with the sale. The selectmen have allocated all but $50,000 from CPA funds in their Warrant Article. This Warrant Article #13 will be presented and voted at Town Meeting October 23.
The final plans of how exactly the 77 acres will be used has not been drawn. This is a large site that offers the opportunity for multiple playing fields for: lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, etc. as well a portion that will be designated with a Conservation Restriction. So, for the first time we are seeing groups who have not worked together join forces on a project which we see meeting everyone’s needs and goals.
New ball fields will be built, which are desperately needed. (Tribal, BAA, Masco Football).
Large piece will be used to protect: water supplies, wildlife, and passive recreation. (BTA/BOLT)
Purchase prevents the property from becoming a new, 38 lot development that could put a strain on the schools, and thus helping keep the town budget under control. (Citizens concerned with tax rate.)
YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
Please attend Town Meeting on October 23rd @ 7:30pm in the Masconomet Auditorium and VOTE to approve Warrant Article #13, to purchase the 77 acres owned by the Haynes Family. BAA is arranging child care/activities at Masco Field House that night.
