Thank you for volunteering to coach in the Tribal Lacrosse Program. Coach registration will open in January. Please review the following information carefully. All coaches must register with Tribal AND meet the appropriate team requirements. Scroll down for separate information to coach girl and boy teams.

Coach Requirements for Girl Teams

First Step: Register with Tribal Lacrosse at http://assn.la/Reg/?r=3:193459

This is a REQUIRED first step in the process that should be done by March 1st at the latest.

Next Step: Obtain a US Lacrosse Member Number

All Tribal girls coaches are REQUIRED to obtain a US Lacrosse number in order to be eligible to coach. Why? Tribal relies on the insurance offered through US Lacrosse to ‘Adult Coach’ members for liability purposes.

Once all Tribal girls coaches have registered on the Tribal site, generally in early March, Tribal lacrosse will submit the list of registered girls coaches from the website to US Lacrosse to obtain US Lacrosse Adult Coach member numbers for all girls coaches at all age levels. You do not need to sign up for or renew your US Lacrosse membership on your own, Tribal lacrosse will submit your information and cover the cost of membership for all girls coaches as long as they have registered on the Tribal web site.

But, US Lacrosse does have a number of requirements you must complete before they can issue US Lacrosse numbers for Adult Coaches and cover an individual through the insurance they provide. Tribal girls coaches must complete both items below before they are issued a number and are cleared for coaching:

1.   Complete a national background screening conducted by US Lacrosse – All new and renewing members must complete a background screening, even if you went through one last year.

The background screening is done through a third party vendor (NCSI) for US Lacrosse. Once Tribal submits the list of coaches to US Lacrosse, everyone on the list will receive an email to initiate the background check. Background checks must be initiated within 10 days of receiving the first email. Once completed, your membership will be updated showing the you completed the background check.

If the check is not completed within the 10 day window, your account with US Lacrosse will be suspended and no US Lacrosse number will be generated. See your AGD if this happens.

2.   Complete SafeSport training through US Lacrosse – This is a new requirement by US Lacrosse for the 2020 season. All new and renewing members must complete the training to receive a US Lacrosse member number and insurance coverage.

Training is provided directly through the US Center for SafeSport. There is no charge when going through US Lacrosse. There are 3 modules, taking 30-45 minutes each to compete. Training can be started, stopped, and resumed meaning you do not need to complete the entire training or even one of the modules in a single session.

Once Tribal submits the list of coaches to US Lacrosse, everyone on the list will receive an email from US Lacrosse on how to initiate training. Training must be completed within 10 days of receiving the first email. Once completed, coaches will receive a certificate and their membership information will be updated to show they have met the training requirement. Coaches should retain their certificates just to be safe to show proof they completed the course.

If training is not completed within the 10 day window, your account with US Lacrosse will be suspended and no US Lacrosse number will be generated. See your AGD if this happens.

If you have recently completed SafeSport training for another youth sport organization, you can contact US Lacrosse and submit your certificate to US Lacrosse to see if it meets membership requirement. Contact US Lacrosse at (410) 235-6882 x102 for Membership Services for instructions on how to submit your certificate for consideration.

Note – Renewing members can start their SafeSport training at any point and do not have to wait for Tribal to submit your name for renewal. To do this:

1)    Sign into your US Lacrosse account from www.uslacrosse.org

                                  i.    There are options to create a username and login if you are a renewing member and do not already have one.

2)    Look for the Quick Links list on the right side of the page.

3)    Select ‘SafeSport Training’

4)    Scroll down and select ‘Start your SafeSport Training’

IMPORTANT – If you do decide to take your training early it is important to retain your certificate. You will need to send this certificate to US Lacrosse at renewal as proof that you have recently completed the courses. Contact US Lacrosse at (410) 235-6882 x102 for Membership Services for instructions on how to submit your certificate.

Founders Girls Lacrosse League - Coaches do not need certification through the Founders Girls Lacrosse League (fgll.org) in order to coach. But we do encourage all coaches to seek out and attend as many of the free coaching clinics as possible offered through FGLL throughout the winter and spring. See FGLL’s web page at www.fgll.org for coaching clinic information.
