Thank you for volunteering to coach in the Tribal Lacrosse Program. Coach compliance and certification are governed by the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL) for boys teams and Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL) for girls teams. Please review the following information carefully. All coaches must register with Tribal AND meet the appropriate team requirements. Why? Liability insurance for Tribal and all ‘Adult Coach’ members is dependent upon compliance with the rules and regulations of these two organizations.

Coach Requirements for Tribal Girls Teams

First Step: Register with Tribal Lacrosse. Go to the online registration tab or use this link

http://www.triballax.org/Registration/Default.asp?n=162288&org=triballax.org and select 2022 Coach Registration

Second Step: Register with FGLL on their website: 2022 Coach Registration and Pledge

Note: when you register with FGLL and you do not know what age group you will be coaching or your "team's name" please just fill in "Tribal" as your team name.

Please review FGLL's website for information on 2022 rules, coaching clinic opportunities, and more. See here for 2022 coaching clinic dates: https://www.leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=120030&org=fgll.org

Third Step: Complete SafeSport Training

As of 2021, Tribal Lacrosse along with the Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL) is requiring that all coaches complete SafeSport training every 2 years.

  • If you completed SafeSport training last year for the Tribal 2021 season, you are not required to re-take the course this year (you will be required to take it next year).
  • If this is your first year as a registered coach with Tribal girls lacrosse, or you did not take the SafeSport course in 2021, you are required to complete the training for the 2022 season.

Tribal and the FGLL have selected the US Center for SafeSport and their individual training as the training of choice. Cost for the class is $20.00 which will be reimbursed by Tribal Lacrosse. The interactive course takes roughly 90 minutes to complete. The full training does not have to be completed all at once, you are able stop and resume the course where you left off as needed. Follow the steps below to complete your training. Training must be completed prior to the start of practices.

If you have completed SafeSport training in the last 12 months through another youth sports organization (youth soccer, football, field hockey, baseball, etc) you are not required to retake the course for Tribal Lacrosse. Please send your dated completion certificate by email to Jeff Mills ( ), Tribal Lacrosse Board Member, to satisfy the Tribal Lacrosse SafeSport training requirement. Completion certificates obtained through another youth sports organization do not need to be from the US Center for SafeSport to meet the Tribal Lacrosse requirement.

To complete SafeSport training follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the US Center for SafeSport website: https://uscenterforsafesport.org/
  2. Hover over Training and Education on the horizontal navigation bar.
  3. Click on SafeSport Courses for All
  4. Click on the Get Trained Now link under the Get SafeSport Trained! Section.
  5. Click on Login in the top right corner and Sign Up.
  6. Create an account and within ‘Membership(s)’ type in 'Founders'. Scroll through the list and select 'Founders - Tribal'. Note - part of registration will likely include the US Center for Safesport verifying your email address. When you reach this step, check your junk mail if you do not see the email within your inbox.
  7. Look for and select the ‘SafeSport Trained Core Course’. It should be listed as lasting 90 minutes.
  8. Pay for the training and fully complete the class.
  9. Upon completion, send a copy of your completion certificate to Jeff Mills by email ( ) to fulfill the requirement. Also, please indicate where Tribal Lacrosse can mail your $20.00 reimbursement.

If you have any questions on the above instructions or on the SafeSport training requirement, please contact your Age Group Director or Jeff Mills directly by email at

ALL coaches (anyone who will assist with practice or be on the sideline at games) MUST have a 2021 MBYLL Coaching Badge. Anyone without a MBYLL Coach badge is NOT allowed on the sidelines for games as they are not Insured (putting everyone at risk should there be an incident) and they are not MBYLL Compliant (including lacking CORI and National Background Check approval).

  1. Each year, MBYLL will issue badges that are valid for that current season only to all coaches who complete Registration and Compliance.
  2. Coaches who attended an in-person Certification Clinic the previous season, or attend one that year, will receive a MBYLL Coaching Badge WITH a Certification Sticker (All Registration and Compliance requirements must be completed prior to receiving Badge with Sticker).
  3. All previous badges will no longer be valid.

Coaches who attend an In-Person Certification Clinic will be considered Certified for 2 seasons.  To receive a Coach Badge with Certification Sticker for the 2nd season, the coach MUST complete all registration and compliance requirements.
Due to last season being cancelled, we have extended the Certification of coaches who attended a Clinic in 2019 or 2020 for 1 additional season. Coaches who attended a clinic in 2019 will be certified for 2021 as long as they complete registration and the National Background Check. Coaches who attended a clinic (in person or on-line) in 2020 will be certified for 2021 and 2022 as long as they complete registration and the National Background Check.

ALL coaches MUST register on www.MBYLL.org starting December 15– NO cost to coach or town program to register.

Coaches will be asked at Registration: Will they be attending a Coach Certification In-person Clinic (1 coach on every team must be MBYLL certified. Certification is good for 2 seasons)?

YES – please send me the list of Clinics
NO– I attended one in 2019 or 2020
NO – I just need a Coach Badge, another coach on my team will be certified

  • If you were registered in 2020, your SafetyOne profile is still active and you can access it right away to complete compliance requirements.
  • If you are a new coach, within 1 week of registering on MBYLL site, coach will receive an email invite to access their profile on SafetyOne to complete Compliance requirements and receive a Coach Badge for that year.
